Prizes and Awards – HECFF 2026

Each year, the Human Environment Care Film Festival (HECFF) honors outstanding works that reflect creativity, depth, and a strong human–environment message.
All winning films receive the HECFF Trophy and an Official Winner Certificate.

Main Awards

    Awarded to the most powerful and artistically accomplished film of the festival.

  • Best Short Film
    Recognizing exceptional storytelling in a short format.

  • Best Documentary
    For a feature documentary that deeply explores human–environment or human rights themes.

  • Best Short Documentary
    For a short-form documentary that effectively communicates real human or environmental stories.

  • Best Experimental Film
    Honoring innovative approaches to cinematic form and expression.

  • Best Animated Short Film
    Celebrating creativity and artistic excellence in animation.

🇨🇦 Regional Awards

  • Best Canadian Short
    For the most outstanding short film created by a Canadian filmmaker.

  • Best International Short Film
    For the best short film produced outside Canada, reflecting global perspectives.

Thematic & Vision Awards

  • Best Cultural Diversity
    Honoring films that promote cross-cultural understanding and inclusion.

  • Best (Sight) Point of View
    Recognizing a filmmaker’s unique visual style or perspective on human–environment issues.

  • The Best and Most Effective Perspective
    Awarded to the film with the most impactful and inspiring message aligned with the festival’s mission.

Special Section 2026: Dance and Joy

  • Best Film on Dance 
    Awarded to the film that best captures the art of movement, rhythm, and expression through dance.

  • Best Film on Joy 
    Celebrating films that portray happiness, resilience, and the spirit of human joy in creative and moving ways.
